Gashi: The government coalition is not based on pressures on each other, but on conversations and arguments

"Interethnic relations in our country have been fragile since the independence of our country, and great attention should always be paid to those topics. I am a great supporter of the idea of bringing our peoples together, of strengthening inter-ethnic relations, so we should all work together in that direction," said the President of the Assembly, Afrim Gashi, in an interview for "Channel 5".

Asked if he thought the "bad scenarios" that had been predicted were over, Gashi said: "by saying they're fragile, you can never say they're over."

The Speaker of the Assembly says that he is not concerned with the whereabouts of former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi, who is suspected of embezzling millions in the State Lottery.

– I try to abstract myself from daily politics. That is the job of law enforcement. Yesterday I saw a statement by its leader that he knows and I think he should be called soon, asked where he is and measures should be taken and he should be called and come to answer to the law enforcement authorities, Gashi said.

On who is to blame for Grubi's escape and where the responsibility should be located, he said that "if it happens to us several times, we should see what happens."

- Unfortunately, in the transfer of power, many positions are still held by people who belong to those political provinces, so when you have the information, it leaks, then from a political point of view you cannot prevent it. If there is a legal problem, then I think we should see, and the government should see where the problem is, that something was not done wrong and those who made a mistake should be held accountable, Gashi clarified.

Regarding the resignation that DUI demands from him, Gashi said that he does not want to debate with the opposition party.

- I am trying to build a model of a politician who speaks honestly and tells things as they are. Every person who has at least basic knowledge of law, but also general knowledge, knows that this is so. When nothing is humiliated by telling the truth, but by how someone left the situation. We need to deal with why someone left her in that position, not because I said it, Gashi said.

Asked if it is true that the "Vredi" coalition put pressure on VMRO-DPMNE to withdraw the changes in the Laws on Education, Gashi clarified that there was a discussion.

- The coalition between VMRO-DPMNE and "Vredi", here is also I KNOW, in this relation, when I was the president and from my information that I have so far, it is not based on pressures, on reciprocal pressures towards each other, but on a base of principled conversations, based on arguments. Every issue is discussed, where it is normal to improve something, to withdraw, to make an assessment, in the direction of improving the laws. There are no pressures on each other. But the fact is that there was a discussion on our side and it was realized that some things can be fixed, Gashi said.

Regarding the chances of constitutional changes in 2025, Gashi said that this was not the condition in their pre-election program.

- It was mentioned in several statements, but in the pre-election program of the "Vredi" Coalition it was not that condition. We said we will make efforts to make the changes as soon as possible. We do that. Today, as a majority, we have a common position about it, we are trying to cause guarantees and we think that this way we will also secure the process, so if we happen to have another veto based on ethnic and identity issues after constitutional amendments, it can lead the process to risk of continuing the process of our country's integration into the EU, Gashi said, adding that he expects constitutional amendments to happen as soon as possible, but that still depends on several political factors.

According to him, instability should not be created all the time through elections. This political will of the citizens, as he said, is very clear, and through local elections it will be checked in some way, although local elections and parliamentary elections are different ways of expressing political will. He believes that it is enough if there are local elections. - This Government, this program as it has been started, can continue to implement it for four years and after four years we will see what the citizens will say and we will see for ourselves what we have realized from what we promised, said Gashi.
