The conditions for the official recognition of Palestine as a state have not yet been met, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne said today, after Norway, Spain and Ireland announced today that they will do so on May 28.

- This is not just a symbolic issue or a matter of political positioning, but a diplomatic tool in the service of the solution of two states living side by side in peace and security, Sejourne's statement says.

He added that France does not consider that the conditions have yet been met for such a decision to have a real impact on that process.
