After the soccer match in Indonesia, thousands of spectators stormed the field, and when police fired tear gas, mass panic broke out. According to the authorities, at least 174 people died and more than 100 were injured.

According to the Deputy Governor of Java, 174 people died in severe riots after a football match in the Indonesian province of East Java. Among the dead were two policemen, the Indonesian police said.

After the match between Arema и Persebaya Surabaya, the fans of the losing team rushed onto the field. When the police fired tear gas, a stampede broke out, East Java police chief Niko Afinta told reporters. 34 people died on the field of Kanjuruhan Stadium, all others in hospitals, Afinta reported.

The Kanjuruhan Stadium has a capacity of 42.000 and was sold out, according to officials. According to the police, 3.000 people entered the field.
