The American president Joe Biden last night he awarded them The National Medals of Arts and honored more and more artists and philanthropists for their contributions to American society.
The rock musician was also among those honored Bruce Springsteen, to whom Biden, alluding to the song "Born To Run," quipped, "Bruce, some people are just born to run."
The comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus, whose television series "Veep" portrays the vice presidency, a post that Biden himself has held in the past, was one of those honored with the National Medal of Arts.
“She embraces life's absurdity with absolute wit and handles life's real twists and turns with absolute grace. She's a mother, she's a cancer survivor, she's a comedy pioneer, she's an American original," Biden said of Louis-Dreyfus.
The actress Mindy Calling, who was one of the main stars of the famous sitcom "The Office", also received a National Medal of Arts.
When Biden introduced the novelist Colson Whitehead in front of the audience, the president emphasized that the writer is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, an American award considered the highest recognition in the field of journalism in print media, literary achievements and musical composition.
"I'm going to try to win twice in a row," Biden said, alluding to his ambitions to run for president again in 2024.
The singer was among the other winners of the National Medals Gladys Knight, the fashion designer Vera Wang, the historian Walter Isaacson and the writers Amy Tan, Anne Patchett и Tara Westover, among others.
