PHOTO: Ukrainians arrest Putin's godfather, pro-Russian politician escaping from custody
The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelenski, announced tonight that Ukraine's secret services have captured a pro-Russian opposition politician Victor Medvedchuk, who escaped from house arrest imposed on him on charges of high treason.
The controversial politician, who is in close friendly and godfather relations with the Russian president Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, is accused of transferring money from Russian state-owned companies to separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk.
According to US officials, Medvedchuk, who is under US sanctions, could have chosen Moscow as the head of a possible puppet government in Kyiv, in case Russia takes control of Ukraine. He escaped from house arrest on February 27, three days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"A special operation was carried out, thanks to the Security Forces of Ukraine. Well done! Details will be announced later. "Glory to Ukraine," Zelensky wrote on social media, posting a picture of the arrested Medvedchuk.
