PHOTO | Portrait of Alan Turing: The first work of art created by a robot sold for a million euros
The portrait of the famous mathematician Alan Turing, which was created by an ultra-realistic robot called Ai-Yes, was sold in London at the famous auction house "Sotheby's" for million euros, convey world media.
The 2,2-meter piece titled "Artificial Intelligence God" is the first artwork created by artificial intelligence to be put up for auction and sold for $1,08 million, or about a million euros.
The auction house expected a profit of only 160.000 euros, but the income of the auction held on Thursday exceeded all expectations. Therefore, the celebration, as reported by the media, was big.
"The record price for the first artwork by a humanoid robot artist reflects the growing intersection between artificial intelligence technology and the global art market," said Sotheby's.
The female robot, whose name is Ai-Da, is powered by artificial intelligence and has cameras in her eyes and bionic hands. It was named after Ada Lovelace, the world's first female computer programmer. The robot was created by Aidan Meller, a specialist in modern and contemporary art.
The robot artist says of her artwork that Turing's portrait invites viewers "to ponder the divine nature of artificial intelligence and computing, while considering the ethical and social implications of these advances."
The painted Turing is considered one of the founders of modern computer technology. During World War II, Turing worked for British intelligence, where he played a key role in deciphering the German Enigma codes. Already in the 1950s, he was concerned about the future development of artificial intelligence.
