Holme Villa, set on four acres in London's Regent's Park, is expected to fetch £250 million (about $300 million), making it the most expensive property ever sold in the UK.

It fell into the hands of bankruptcy trustees

Holme Villa, built in 1818 in Regent's Park, went on the market as collateral for a huge loan taken out by its Saudi Arabian owners. The villa has been placed in the hands of the bankruptcy trustees who initiated the sale, and it is believed that it will be a house that has reached the highest price in the history of London, reports the Financial Times.

Villa Holme has already attracted the attention of extremely wealthy buyers, and the agents in charge of selling this property expect the price to be around $300 million. That would surpass the price of London's previous most expensive house, a £210 million mansion overlooking Hyde Park bought by Evergrande founder Hugh Ka Yan, one of China's richest men.

The sale of the villa and the unusual circumstances surrounding it provide a rare glimpse into the business of wealthy foreign investors in the London property market - transactions that are often shrouded in secrecy.

The mansion fell into the hands of bankruptcy trustees as collateral for a loan of around £150m, along with a house in New York and a jet, but a source told the Financial Times that the arrangement had lapsed.

40 rooms, tennis court...

Villa Holm has 40 bedrooms and an impressive 2.700 square meters of living space. In addition to countless rooms, the villa has eight garages, a tennis court, a library, a sauna and a large dining room. The property also has a landscaped lake, a spacious lawn and lush greenery.

Many compare this villa to the White House in Washington due to its facade and size.

This 205-year-old villa, one of a small number of sought-after residences located in a central London park, was built as a home for James Burton, a property developer who built over 3.000 properties in central London.

Insiders claim that at the moment two of the three potential buyers who have expressed interest in the villa are from London, and the third is from abroad. It is assumed that the villa will be bought by an investor, not a family that plans to live in it. Holme is attracting the interest of foreign investors, just like other houses in expensive London areas. Namely, 48 percent of houses in the most expensive parts of London in the first six months of 2022 were sold to international buyers.
