Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is finally secured enough to start work on its restoration after the big fire in April 2019, when the roof and the tower were destroyed, reports The Guardian.
The state agency overseeing the restoration process announced today that work to secure the structure has been completed. This work started immediately after the fire on April 19, 2019.
Carpenters, scaffolding experts, professional climbers, organ mechanics and others participated in this work, which included the installation of temporary structures to stabilize the famous towers and walls of the large roof structure, as well as a special "umbrella" that protects the building from rain. .
Renovation work will begin in the fall, and other work will begin during the winter.
The agency wants to achieve President Emmanuel Macron's goal of allowing visitors to enter the cathedral in 2024, when Paris will host the Olympics.
