In the monastery church of the Most Holy Mother of God in the Lešok monastery, where the National Conservation Center has been working on the restoration of the fresco painting for the past few weeks, a larger fragment of an archigraph, drawn 8 centuries ago, was found, which makes this spiritual sanctuary unique with three-layer painting. The oldest dating from the 14th or perhaps the 13th century, the frescoes from the 17th and the wall paintings from the 19th century.

The fresco with the archbishop is located in the altar of the monastery church. It is visibly damaged, and above it there is a wall painting from the 17th century.

"We made a special carrier to be able to present the old painting. That support will be placed in the place where the fresco from the 17th century is, and under it will practically be the fresco from the 13th or 14th century, exactly which century the scientists have to determine. Such is the system here and it does not allow for great protection", says Vlado Mukovski, adviser-conservator from the National Conservation Center.

Special methods are used for the restoration of the monastery church, and part of the material is taken from the climate where this temple is located.

"Before, we use traditional methods for cleaning, especially for salts we use chemical preparations that are modern, but for plasters we use traditional methods, i.e. the authentic materials that were used at the time, and we looked for a special stone in the environment that was used for this purpose, and we use chaff and hemp", says the adviser-conservator Vlado Mukovski.

The monastery church of the Holy Mother of God is being restored for a long time. As Mukovski says, everything depends on the approval of the funds. Apart from the problem with finances and the lack of experts and staff, the process of protecting the Macedonian churches is difficult.

"This year minimal funds have been approved for restoration, this work requires attention and patience." We have been working on phases for several years, we hope that these things will continue and we will present the whole apse in a beautiful light so that the general public can see it. We are here until June 15, then we have other engagements in other facilities. The problem is that there are only three conservative councilors in the state, you can only guess how many of those people are enough. Churches need protection, and with this team they cannot be protected. We are all proud of the Macedonian cultural heritage, and if we are proud, we should do something to protect it," says Vlado Mukovski from the National Conservation Center.

The architecture and the uniqueness of a large number of the frescoes attract particular attention to the temple of the Virgin.
