Von der Leyen believes that the EU needs a vision for the successful implementation of enlargement

The enlargement of the EU is not only a call of history, but also a geopolitical necessity, which is why the Union should set a vision for the successful implementation of this process, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today.
- This is the reason why the Commission started working on a series of reviews of the policies before the enlargement, based on the question of how our institutions, our budget, our security guarantees would function, Von der Leyen said after the meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja.
Von der Leyen emphasized that Latvia is a bright example of successful integration into the EU, which continued to deepen its integration into the Union even after almost 20 years of joining the European family.
The President of the EC thanked Silinja for what she said was unwavering Latvian support for Ukraine.
- Latvia has supported all our sanctions against Russia and our various financial aid packages for Ukraine. You have been a strong supporter from the start. European financial support, of course, remains a lifeline for this country, which is fighting so bravely for its freedom and its future, von der Leyen said, adding that this is exactly why the EC has proposed a new support package for Ukraine of 50 billion euros until 2027.
Von der Leyen also emphasized that the EU continues to express full solidarity with Latvia, which faced the "cynical and inhumane instrumentalization of migrants" by Belarus.
- Over the past years, we deployed Frontex personnel and mobilized 63 million euros of additional funds for border surveillance. We continue to closely monitor the situation at the border, said the President of the European Commission.
She emphasized that these hybrid attacks on EU member states are the reason why a quick political agreement is needed within the Union on the Pact on Migration and Asylum, which should establish common European rules on these issues, as well as on the revision of the multi-year budget of the block.
– So, we have a lot to talk about. All this is in preparation for the upcoming summits – the European Political Community, the informal Summit in Granada and then the formal European Council here in Brussels, Von der Leyen said.
