The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today that the European Union (EU) urgently needs to draw up plans to prepare for a complete shutdown of Russian gas.

A complete cut off of Russian gas supplies would be a consequence of the sanctions imposed on the Kremlin due to the invasion of Ukraine.

- We must prepare for a further interruption of gas supply, or even a complete interruption of Russian gas supply, she said in Strasbourg.
