World Automobile Federation (FIA) reversed the decision of the organizers of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and announced that the Spanish Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso officially won the third place in Jeddah in the second race of the season in the Formula 1 championship.

Alonso won third place at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last night, but after the race, the refereeing committee decided to sanction the Spaniard adding 10 seconds to the final time, as they judged that the Aston Martin driver did not serve the five-second penalty before the first "box" according to the rules. The third place was awarded to the British driver of Mercedes George Russell, and Alonso dropped to the fourth position, because in the opinion of the judges he committed a violation.

According to the rules of F1, the competitor is sanctioned with five seconds, and until that time expires, the mechanics in the pit stop are not allowed to touch the car. In explaining the decision on the additional penalty for Alonso, the judges said that the crane touched the car before five seconds had passed.

But the Aston Martin team appealed, and after reviewing the footage, FIA officials awarded Alonso third place at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, giving the Spaniard his 100th career podium finish.

First place in the race for The Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia won by the Mexican Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, while his teammate and current world champion in F1, the Dutchman Max Verstapen was second.
