The phenomenon of memories is the key to the play "There Will Be No End of the World"

The premiere of the play "There Will Be No End of the World" directed by Nina Nikolic, a co-production project between Peripetija Production, MNT and SARTR from Sarajevo, BiH, will take place as part of the 46th ILO on the small stage in MNT.

The premiere of the play "There Will Be No End of the World" directed by Nina Nikolic first took place on September 18th at the Sarajevo War Theater - SARTR in Sarajevo. The program of the 46th Young Open Theater enabled the play to have its Macedonian premiere on November 27 (it was planned for November 24, but postponed due to three days of mourning in the country).

During the rehearsals for the play in the MNT building, we met with the entire author and cast of the play. The author of the text "It will not be the end of the world", Adnan Lugonic, explained that he started writing in 2018, while he was artistic director at the National Theater in Mostar and that he initially prepared the text for installation there. The text received additional symbolism after the coronavirus pandemic began.

- The cooperation with the director Nina Nikolic and SARTR in Sarajevo came through the actress Dzana Dzanic. In the theater they were looking for a text that is intimate and does not have too many characters. The text was conceived with three characters - a father and two daughters back in 2018 and deals with all the situations we face today, such as isolation, loneliness, inability to communicate, situations when we are forced to live between four walls. While working on the text, I was interested in the phenomenon of memories and wanted to find out what it means when a person suffers from a disease, in this case Alzheimer's and dementia, and when he can no longer keep the memories of his life. Then the structure in which the three characters entered began to be assembled. The key in the play is that the two daughters have a problem with their father, but given his health condition, they can not solve that problem, because he does not remember the past - explained Lugonic.

It is a drama that deals with the destruction of intimate worlds. All three characters (Darja Rizova as Masha, the father - Sasa Handzic and Dzana Dzanic in the role of Nina) from the drama under the skin carry the doom of their own world. The character of the daughter Nina in the play is played by the actress Dzana Dzanic, who was privately in a phase of turnaround in her personal life, when she had to make changes and make some decisions.

The character of Nina, who often had to start over in her life, allowed her to introspect her life, but also challenged her to delve deeper into the role. "In the play, Nina needs to build a better relationship with her sister and face the past, but also with her father. "As a character, she is a person who does not get into fights and tries to solve problems in a diplomatic way," reveals Dzana Dzanic, who is part of the SARTR acting ensemble.

The father in the play is the actor Sasa Handzic from the Bosnian National Theater in Zenica. The character of the father is demented, his wife has died, he lives with one of his two daughters, at times he lives in reality, in the real world, and at times he lives in some of his own memories or imaginary worlds.

"I got into the character building very emotionally, because my grandmother was demented and I had the opportunity to see her, in a way, survive. Such people are not really aware of the situations they are in, and that was very interesting for me to explore in the process of making the play. "It is interesting for my character that I play in both Macedonian and Bosnian, and I play an older character, so I am neither in my body nor with my language, and that is something completely different from what I have done so far," said Handzic.

MNT actress Darya Rizova plays the character of her second daughter Masha. She previously worked with Gianna and Sasha on the play "Othello" and the new play is a continuation of their acting collaboration. "We did the show with a lot of will and enthusiasm this summer, because last year we did nothing because of the pandemic. I want to thank the director Aleш Kurt and the whole SARTR team for the wonderful hospitality they gave me in Sarajevo while we were preparing the play. "In the whole situation with the pandemic, with the transience, cruelty and rudeness of life, which create anxiety and fear, making the play created rare happy moments, connected me with a wonderful team and allowed me to perform on our stage and abroad," he said. In addition to the premiere performance, the play "There Will Be No End of the World" has been included in MNT's December repertoire and will be available for viewing from December 23rd to 26th.
