Fauci: Astra-Zeneka vaccine works well, but we will not need it at this time
Leading US epidemiologist Anthony Fauci believes Americans may not need the Astra-Zeneka vaccine because they have vaccines from other manufacturers.
The AstraZeneka vaccine against Covid-19 has good efficacy, but safety issues must be addressed, said the top US infectious disease expert.
"I think the Astra-Zeneka vaccine is a good vaccine in terms of efficacy, and if the security concerns in the European Union are removed, the efficacy of this vaccine is really good," Fauci told BBC Radio.
However, he added, "it is not clear whether we will ever use Astra-Zeneka or not, but at this point we do not seem to need it. "This is not a negative charge against Astra-Zeneka, but it is simply possible given the procurement we have from other companies," Fauci added.
At a time when the United States is easing restrictions on Covid-19, Fauci said there was a "really risky situation" when bars and restaurants reopened in places where the masking measure had not been implemented.
Fauci believes it is not the time to declare victory with the pandemic.
