Lake near Las Vegas recedes due to drought, human remains found at bottom
As the water recedes due to a prolonged drought, Lake Mead near Las Vegas is revealing its dark secrets. The police are finding more and more remains of human bodies on the dry bottom, CNN reported.
Authorities have found human remains in the lake five times this year, three of them at Swim Beach. For now, it is not known whose remains are, nor whether they belong to one or more people. Clark County Funeral Home is trying to answer that question.
The latest discovery happened on Monday evening. Previously, human remains were found on three occasions, after which an investigation was conducted, during which six more human bones were discovered.
Mead Reservoir supplies drinking water to 20 million people in an area stretching from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. The water level in it began to decrease in 2000, and the situation worsens with frequent dry periods. Now the water in the reservoir is at the lowest level since 1937.
Las Vegas, which is located near the reservoir, has historically been a haven for crime, so many enemies of the mafia are believed to have ended up in the deep lake waters.
