We are very carefully following the development of events related to the relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, the European Commission said, transmitsat the Bulgarian media.

Brussels does not comment on the tensions the Macedonian-Bulgarian border over the weekend, reasoning that does not comment on ongoing investigations or legal proceedings.

The European Commission recalls the importance of good neighborly relations.

"In this context, efforts are needed from all sides to promote an atmosphere of dialogue and mutual respect and to avoid unnecessary tensions" said the European Commission.
