At the end of his visit to Belgrade today, MEP Vladimir Bilcik said that there was positive progress in Serbia before the April 3 elections and added that the implementation of the agreed measures was crucial because there was some delay, MIA reports from Belgrade.

"We are sorry to see delays in the implementation of some measures," Bilcik told a news conference at the end of a visit by EU lawmakers to Belgrade, noting that the work of the Interim Media Monitoring Body was crucial.

According to him, the media scene is still polarized, but there are improvements in the public services of RTS and RTV.

He assessed that the 16 agreed measures could give Serbia a chance for fair elections, adding that it is an opportunity that everyone should use.

The MEP Tanja Fajon said the international community would monitor the election, adding that it was another test for Serbia "for a better life for its citizens, democracy and freedom of the media".

"There is no boycott this time, and the ball is in the court of political actors in Serbia," Fajon said.

The EU mediators also attended the press conference Eduard Kukan and Knut Fleckenstein, who stressed that they did not come "as lawyers for the opposition" but to help in the dialogue.

"As far as the media scene is concerned, it is important for me to be open to all interlocutors and for politicians not to choose who to talk to, because that way citizens will get a different picture and will be able to choose," Fleckenstein said.
