Europol arrests 150 in nine countries for illicit trade through 'dark network'
An international police operation in several countries around the world has arrested 150 suspects for buying or selling illegal goods online as part of one of the largest operations against the dark network, Europol was quoted as saying by French media.
"This operation, known as Dark HunTOR, consists of a series of separate but interconnected actions in Australia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States," said The Hague-based Europol agency.
Europol staff seized more than $ 26,7 million in cash, as well as more than 230 kilograms of drugs and 45 weapons.
The term "dark network" describes parts of the world wide web in which the identity and location of users are hidden, and they themselves communicate through encrypted messages. It has been described as the "Wild West of the Internet" because it is used by criminals, extremists, hacker groups and others.
