Europe plans to send 25-30 troops to Ukraine, writes The Washington Post

European countries are considering deploying a total of 25.000 to 30.000 troops to Ukraine, the European Union has announced.Washington Post", citing officials.

The latest version of the European plan envisages the creation of a military force of several brigades, perhaps 25.000 to 30.000 soldiers, the newspaper writes.

Earlier today, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the issue of sending troops to Ukraine is solely a matter for the United Nations or bilateral agreements and that it is "a topic that the EU has nothing to do with and should not comment on."

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez today said that it is too early to discuss sending troops to Ukraine, noting that he believes a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia will not be achieved soon.

"Nobody is thinking about sending troops to Ukraine, because peace is still far away," he said.

Germany will not shy away from sending ground troops to Ukraine if a framework for such a move is established, a spokesman for the German Defense Ministry said ahead of urgent talks in Paris on European security, the RIA news agency reported.Reuters".

However, it is too early to talk about Germany's exact contribution, he added.

French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting a meeting of European leaders today to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

The announcement of the meeting came a day after US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said that Europe would have no place at the negotiating table.
