Europe should save gas so that there are no interruptions in supply, the International Energy Agency said
The International Energy Agency (IEA) advises the EU to save with gas consumption, to avoid empty storages and the risk of interruptions in supply this winter, DPA reported.
To keep gas reserves at an adequate level until the end of the heating season, demand must be reduced by 9 to 13 percent compared to the average of the past five years, according to the IEA's report on the state of the gas market presented in Paris .
In this way, it will be ensured that gas reserves remain at a level between 25 to 30 percent, in conditions of low inflow of liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to the report.
Without reduced gas consumption and in the event of a complete freeze on gas supplies from Russia from next month, the level of reserves could fall to just below 5 percent, increasing the risk of supply disruptions in the event of cold weather waves.
According to the IEA's analysis, with a high inflow of LNG storage facilities would be filled to about 20 percent.
"The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sharp reduction in natural gas supplies to Europe are causing significant damage to consumers, businesses and entire economies – not only in Europe, but also in developing countries," said IEA Director of Energy Markets and Security Keisuke Sadamori.
