In December 2022, the price of food in Croatia, according to the harmonized index of consumer prices, is higher by 19,7 percent compared to December 2021. This is a higher increase than in Italy, slightly higher than the average of the EU and Slovenia and at the level of Germany. In Slovakia, food became more expensive, but the absolute record holder is Hungary, where the price of food in stores is 49,6 percent higher in December 2022 compared to December 2021. The price of bread in Croatia has grown much more than in Italy, Slovenia and the EU average.

Approximately the same growth was recorded in Slovakia, and Hungary with a growth of 82,1 percent is the absolute record holder in the EU. It is interesting that in October the increase in the import prices of this product in Croatia amounted to 30,9 percent, which is far less than in Germany, Italy, Hungary and Slovenia, where the import prices of bread rose by about 50 percent. The growth of meat prices in Croatia is at the level of the EU average (17 percent), more than in Italy, and less than in Germany and Slovenia.

Slovakia and Hungary stand out with particularly high growth, of 30 and 40 percent. Together with the growth index of consumer prices, ie prices in stores, the growth of import prices of a product and the growth of producer prices can be monitored. In November, meat producer prices in Croatia rose the least of the observed countries and less than the EU average.

But the data for October show that import prices in Croatia grew the most of all countries except Hungary, Index hr reported. Looking at the types of meat, chicken stands out, whose price growth in Croatia (18,1 percent) is the lowest among the monitored countries and below the EU average (23,5 percent). The prices of oils and fats rose the least among the monitored countries in Croatia.
