EU member states have formally adopted a plan to use frozen EU funds of the Russian central bank to invest in the defense of Ukraine, British media reported, citing the Belgian government.

EU ministers have agreed "to use the extraordinary proceeds from frozen Russian funds to support the defense and reconstruction of Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression," the Belgian government, which is presiding over talks between EU countries in Brussels, wrote to X.

The text was only supposed to receive formal approval from the ministers, after the agreement on this was already concluded at the beginning of the month.
