The spokesperson of the European Union Peter Stano stated that Kosovo and Serbia could jeopardize their international reputation if they do not start implementing the Ohrid Agreement as soon as possible, reports Economics online.

Stano emphasized that the credibility of the parties will be threatened by not implementing what was agreed, because in order to be seen as a reliable partner of the EU, they must implement what they promised.

"To be seen as a reliable partner of the EU, the parties must fulfill what they promised. The European leaders at yesterday's meeting at the Summit in Brussels called on Kosovo and Serbia to quickly and in good faith implement their obligations arising from the meeting in Ohrid. The two parties in Ohrid agreed to immediately begin the implementation of all provisions of the Agreement and the Annex. The agreed text clearly states: "Kosovo and Serbia are fully committed to respecting all members of the Agreement and this Annex." The provisions of the Agreement (including the Annex) will now be incorporated into Chapter 35 for Serbia and the agenda of the Special Normalization Group for Kosovo. This means that the parties will be contractually bound to implement the provisions if they want to make progress towards the EU. Non-implementation means abandoning the path to the EU," Stano said.

At the same time, Stano announced that in the coming days the EU institutions together with the two sides will start the first steps of the implementation phase of the agreement

"In the following days, now with the approval of the European Council, the leaders of the 27 member states together with the two sides will begin the process of operationalizing the first steps of the implementation phase. As the high representative said yesterday: "I would advise them to do their job." The history of the dialogue has proven that the importance of the agreement is measured by the degree of its implementation, not by the signature. He was very clear that the agreement was agreed, that it must be implemented," Stano said.
