The EU will provide Ukraine with more than 200 transformers and power generators, the President of the European Commission announced today. Ursula von der Layen after the telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski.

Most of the technical assets are donations from Latvia and Lithuania, and the shipment will also include part of the EU supplies, stored in Romania.

Von der Leyen's announcement said the European Commission would facilitate the distribution of donations from companies and organizations willing to help Ukraine deal with the effects of Russian airstrikes on civilian infrastructure. Donations are expected to be initially directed to Poland.

The president of the EC characterized the Russian airstrikes as cruel and deliberately aimed at the infrastructure.

She says the EU is trying to help restore heating and electricity to Ukraine as much as possible.
