The EU has condemned Russia's decision to outlaw Radio Free Europe

The European Union has condemned Russia's decision to declare Radio Free Europe, which is funded by the United States, an "undesirable organization", EU spokesman Peter Stano said today.

Stano on the social network X wrote that this is another attack by Moscow on media freedom, expression and citizens' pluralistic access to information.

"Russia should repeal the Undesirable and Foreign Agents law used to repress and silence critical media," he wrote.

The Ministry of Justice of Russia yesterday added RFE to the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia, it was announced on the website of the Ministry. This media corporation is classified as a "foreign media agent" in Russia. Earlier, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Russia decided to mark RFE's activities as undesirable.

A Moscow court declared Radio Free Europe's operations in Russia bankrupt last March after the company refused to pay a series of fines totaling more than one billion rubles ($14 million) for violating Russia's foreign agent law.
