The US Geological Survey announced today that the most active volcano in the world, Mauna Loa in Hawaii, erupted last night.

The eruption of the Mauna Loa volcano began last night in the caldera, the expansion of the crater formed at the top of the volcano.

The flow of lava is currently limited to the area below the summit of the volcano and does not threaten the settlements at the base.
