Erdogan met with Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, in Istanbul

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today received Ismail Haniya, the leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, in the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, Turkish media reported.

No more details about the meeting, which is being held behind closed doors in the presidential residence, have been released.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Haniya in Doha a few days ago, where they discussed the latest developments in the Gaza conflict, diplomatic sources said.

Fidan and Haniya, along with his delegation, discussed topics related to humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, ceasefire efforts and the hostage issue, the sources said.
