EMA approved the third dose of "Moderna" for people over 18 years
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has concluded that a third dose of the Moderna vaccine against covid-19 vaccine may be considered in people over 18 years of age.
EMA states that there is evidence that every third dose of "Modern" given six to eight months after the second dose "leads to an increase in antibody levels in adults whose antibody levels are reduced." writes Politico.
"The additional dose consists of half the dose used for the primary vaccination schedule," the EMA said in a statement.
It added that current data show that possible side effects after the third dose are "similar to those after the second dose", and that the risk of inflammatory heart disease or other very rare side effects will continue to be monitored.
Earlier this month, the EMA concluded that a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine could be given at least six months after the second dose for people over 18 years of age. In addition, EMA recommends that an additional dose of Pfizer and Moderna be given to people with severely weakened immune systems, at least 28 days after receiving the second dose.
