After the accident, Ellen was seen going out with a friend, and on that occasion reporters asked her if, in the meantime, she had heard from Hatch, with whom she had been in a relationship for three years.

"I don't get along with her." We are no longer in contact, so I don't know how it is," she admitted.

"Of course I wish her the best. I don't want anyone to get hurt," she added.

The romance between DeGeneres and Hatch filled the media pages in the 90s. It was revealed that they were in a relationship in 1997, and they even reportedly wanted to get married "as soon as same-sex marriage becomes legal in Vermont."

However, in 2000 they announced that they were separating, and according to some sources, the reason for the end of their relationship was that Hatch fell in love with Coleman 'Coley' Laffon, cameraman whom she later married.

Lafon filed for divorce on February 2, 2007, after five and a half years of marriage. Hatch reportedly left her husband for her co-star "Men in the Trees", James Tupper. In December 2008, Hatch's representative confirmed that the actress was pregnant with their first child.

However, their marriage also did not last and they got divorced in 2018.
