Extremism in the German army on the rise
The German military counterintelligence service records a growing number of new cases in the Bundeswehr, the German military, investigating suspected extremism, reports DPA.
According to the media there were 483 new cases last year – compared to 390 in 2022.
The service registered 308 new cases of right-wing extremism, and a year earlier there were 278 such suspicions.
Russia's war against Ukraine has opened a new field in the phenomenon of foreign-related extremism. There were 65 new cases, and 18 in 2022.
Most of the new cases are the result of supporting Russia's illegal attack on Ukraine, the report said.
It is a real indicator of extremist activities, because the concept of international understanding and peaceful coexistence of peoples is being destroyed.
According to the report, in 2023 the service classified 14 people as proven extremists.
Among them are six "citizens of the Reich", five right-wing extremists and three people who challenge the legitimacy of the state.
A year earlier, 12 such extremists were registered.
