Explosions in Kyiv, eastern Ukraine on alert for Russian airstrikes
In the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, explosions rang out early this morning, and smoke could be seen above the residential buildings, Western media reported today.
Kiev, its suburbs and large parts of eastern Ukraine were under military warnings of Russian airstrikes for most of the night, Reuters reports.
A fire broke out in central Kiev after Russian drone explosions, Ukraine's military command said, and the army said air defense forces tried to repel Russian drone attacks.
"Information about the scale of the fire, destruction or possible injuries is being clarified," Sergey Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, announced on Telegram. For now, it is not clear whether the fire in the Shevchenkievski neighborhood was caused by a direct hit by a drone or by the remains of a destroyed drone.
"Rescue and fire brigades have been dispatched to the affected neighborhood to find the exact source of the fire," Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said on Telegram.
