EXCLUSIVE VIDEO | Spasovski for UB: I expect a peaceful election day - we had a peaceful campaign

Oliver Spasovski, Minister of Interior / Morning briefing

Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski says all citizens will have access to polling stations on Sunday. The teams of the Ministry of Interior are ready and there is a special operational action "Local Elections 2021". The first challenge of the Ministry of Interior was in cooperation with the SEC to provide all data on voters. First of all, the citizens should be allowed to vote freely, says Spasovski for Utrinski briefing.

-Personal identification documents are issued regularly and expeditiously so that citizens can go to the polls. You know that we have extended the validity of expired passports and those data are entered in the voter list, says Spasovski.

Spasovski concludes that we had a really calmer campaign from the previous election cycles and that that was the goal for the Ministry of Interior and for him personally. He adds that a feature in these past election processes during his tenure is that each subsequent cycle is calmer and with fewer incidents.

- We have no reports of serious incidents other than torn posters, and there were only two broken headquarters, one of which in one case involved minors. There are no serious incidents. We will run in the elections with enough police to ensure the election process. The election campaign ends today, the transport of confidential material started yesterday and the protection of the right to vote during the voting are the three key tasks of the Ministry of Interior during the elections. Police officers will be present at every polling station on election day, but they must not enter the polling station except at the invitation of the president of the election commission, said Minister Spasovski for a morning briefing.

What will happen if the voting terminals do not work, we asked the Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski in today's morning briefing.

- So far we have not participated in the voting process with fingerprints. But we provided software and passed our voter fingerprint information to the SEC. The SEC will be obliged to return this data after the elections. "If there is a problem with the terminal, it will be replaced or switched to the classic voting as before," Spasovski told the Utrinski briefing.

He clarified that the fingerprinters are taken care of by the election board because the police are not allowed to enter the polling station. Spasovski expects that there will be no problems and that the choice of software and terminals is appropriate and adds that this is a system that is not connected to the Internet and can not be hacked.

He appealed to the police to report any violations of the election process, because as a NATO member and EU aspirant we must not allow that. Spasovski expressed hope that we will have a peaceful election day.

The Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski, as a senior party official of SDSM, in today's morning briefing we asked him about his views on the outcome of the elections.

- We have five candidates in Kumanovo. Each of them has the right to fight for the vote of the voters. In my opinion, it is better to have more choices, says Spasovski about the offer of candidates in his city.

The public has the impression that there is no inventiveness in the campaign for these local elections, that everything is done according to the old rules and strategies.

- We as a party have outlined what strategy we will lead to the campaign. Above all, we have a positive approach with the promotion of the program specific to the municipality. It is such a detailed program that refers to the micro level, the level of local communities, says Spasovski for Utrinski briefing.

Even in these local elections, although new local authorities are elected according to the rhetoric and the opening of national topics, there is an impression that it is a parliamentary election.

-Always in any elections, national topics have an impact or are the focus of each of us. Although on October 17 it will not be decided on the election of a government but on a local government, I pointed out that there are no more important elections than the local ones for the interests of the citizens, says Spasovski.

He adds that these are historic elections because we will see if we will give a chance to the VMRO-DMPNE regime to return to power.

- Local elections are always the most important for the citizens. Because every citizen when he gets up in the morning faces local problems that need to be solved by the local government. "We are starting with a large number of mayors we have had so far to get the most mayors," said Spasovski.

There is pressure for early parliamentary elections if SDSM does not do well in these elections and if it loses most of the municipalities it has governed so far. Spasovski is categorical that this will not happen because, as he says, SDSM and the coalition will not lose these elections and expects absolutely success on Sunday.

- Independent candidates will certainly get a certain number of votes just like other smaller parties, but it will not be a large number. I think there will be no surprise in this regard. I believe that the candidacies that are independent or of some political entities are a product of unfulfilled desire through the big parties. There are a small number of truly independent, but they are invisible, Spasovski commented for the Morning Briefing.
