In particular, the European executive recommends that member states lift all restrictions on persons who have been fully vaccinated or who have evidence of Covid-19.

The European Commission this afternoon submitted proposals to EU member states to simplify and facilitate travel procedures during the tourist season this summer, said the MIA correspondent from Brussels.

EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders told a news conference in Brussels that it was important for member states to take a coordinated approach, with the European Commission ready to assist.

In particular, the European executive recommends that member states lift all restrictions on persons who have been fully vaccinated or who have evidence of Covid-19.

A fully vaccinated person is a person who received the last dose at least 14 days ago.

As for other, incompletely vaccinated citizens, the European Commission believes that travel measures need to be adapted.

There should be no restrictions for people coming from the green zone, ie with a mild epidemiological situation. For the people from the orange zone only a test should be requested, while for the people coming from the red zone, the Commission considers it okay to request quarantine unless the person arrives at the border with a negative test, made just before the trip.

Only for people coming from dark red zones, those with the most severe epidemiological conditions, quarantine should remain mandatory.

The European Commission also urges EU member states not to require additional information and conditions from citizens holding an EU Covid Certificate.

Recent weeks have seen a steady decline in infection rates, indicating that vaccination campaigns have been successful in the EU. At the same time, we encourage the availability of affordable testing opportunities. In this context, Member States are slowly lifting restrictions on Covid-19 at home and in travel. "Today we propose that member states coordinate these gradual abolitions of free movement and consider a common tool: the EU digital certificate for Covid," Reynders said.
