Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash last weekend, will be buried today in his hometown of Mashhad.

Raisi is to be buried at the city's shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth imam of Shiite Islam.

High representatives of friendly countries are expected to attend, including the speaker of the Russian parliament Vyacheslav Volodin, reported DPA.

Iran's state railway company organized special trains to transport those wishing to attend the funeral from Tehran to the northeastern city.

So far, there have been several ceremonies and public expressions of mourning for Raisi, the late Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdolakhian and other victims of the crash. Millions of people gathered for the funeral procession in Tehran yesterday.
