The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said today that it was not yet time for a new vote on Scottish independence and that Britain was stronger as the only economic entity.

"We have been advocating for years that this is not the time for constitutional changes. "Our economy is stronger thanks to the fact that we are together," Johnson said.

Scottish Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon has announced that a second Scottish independence referendum is scheduled for October next year, promising to take legal action to secure a vote if the British government tries to block it.

Scotland voted against British independence in a referendum in September 2014.
