Duda and Stubb: Russia is the number one threat to the region
The presidents of Poland and Finland, Andrzej Duda and Alexander Stubb, agreed today in Warsaw that Russia represents the greatest danger to their countries and the security of the entire region.
– We have historical experience with Russia and we see Russia as the number one security threat in our region. Finland and Poland are not users, but suppliers of security in NATO. We understand how to prepare and work on both the military and civilian fronts. That is why we are taking a detailed look at our defense, Stubb said.
Duda and Stubb also discussed possible scenarios for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine, as well as hybrid attacks from Russia that expose both countries.
- First we need to understand what happened, check the facts and only later coordinate our activities with allies, such as Poland, and identify who carried out those attacks, said Stubb.
While Duda emphasized the importance of the center to combat hybrid attacks in Helsinki.
- From him we receive analyzes that are very important for Poland. I convinced the Finnish president that the armed forces of Finland should participate as much as possible in the military exercises on the territory of Poland. I mean the Dragon and Anaconda exercises. We want to strengthen the interoperability of our armed forces, Duda said.
Stubb and Duda agreed that both countries face the same problems, and that the biggest of these problems is the war in Ukraine.
– We have common problems and we are trying to answer them. The biggest problem is the war in Ukraine, Russian aggression, Duda pointed out.
