Drama Theatre Skopje has announced its annual work program supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently submitted the decisions determining the amount of financial resources for the operation of the eighteen national institutions, including the Skopje Drama Theater.

According to the Law on Culture, the annual work program of the national institutions to which the delegated budget is intended is adopted by the directors of the institution, upon prior consent of the Management Board within 15 days of the adoption of the decision, after which the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the director conclude an agreement for financing the annual work program of the National Institution. The national institutions should publish their program on their website.
The Annual Work Program of the National Drama Theatre Skopje in the production section plans five performances for which a budget of 5.900.000 denars has been provided. The funds should be distributed in an extremely balanced and responsible manner in accordance with the necessary aesthetic criteria that must correspond to the level and reputation of Drama Theatre.
The five performances planned to be realized in 2025 are:
– “The Life of Provincial Playboys after World War II” by author Dušan Jovanović directed by Ivan Penović is a major co-production project between several ensembles, members of the Regional Union of Theaters – RUTA (NU Drama Theater Skopje, Local Theater Ljubljana – MGL, Belgrade Drama Theater – BDP and “Grad Theater” from Budva). The co-production is expected to receive funding of 2.000.000 denars;
– A total amount of 1.300.000 denars is planned for the new production of the cult "Flea in the Ear" by Georges Fejdo, directed by Sinisa Eftimov;
– The play "Bullets Over Broadway" is an adaptation of the Woody Allen film directed by Nenad Vitanov in a total amount of 1.200.000 denars;
– “Iphigenia for Nothing” with an adaptation based on the text and directed by Filip Petkovski with a total amount of 850.000 denars;
– The play "Gidon's Knot" by author John Adams, directed by Dragana Miloševska Popov, will be realized with a total amount of 550.000 denars.
The annual program supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the area of organizing events includes the RUTA festival this year. The fourth edition of the festival of the Regional Union of Theaters will be held at the Skopje Drama Theater from October 25 to 30 with a planned total amount of 1.500.000 denars.
For the international cooperation item, which includes the performances of the Drama Theater ensemble abroad, funds in the amount of 2.000.000 denars have been planned.
In the area of publishing activities of the Drama Theatre Skopje, the Ministry supports the publication of "Theatre Herald" as the most significant annual publication that sublimates the overall production of the national theatres and the drama program of the most representative festivals in Macedonia in one season. 150.000 denars are planned for publishing activities.
The annual program of the National Drama Theater Skopje, in accordance with the legal obligation, is publicly published on the theater's website.
The Drama Theater reminds that the competition for the "Goran Stefanovski" award for the best dramatic text by a young Macedonian author is ongoing until February 20. The application and the conditions of the competition are published on the theater's website. The competition aims to affirm contemporary Macedonian drama, to encourage Macedonian dramatic creativity and to maintain the continuity of Macedonian dramatic writing.
