Dragan Daravelski, the ex-director of the Customs Administration, arrested at "Tabanovce"
Today, the police detained the former director of the Macedonian Customs Administration at the Tabanovce border crossing. Dragan Daravelski, confirmed the Ministry of Interior.
He will be transferred to the competent penal institution.
Daravelski is a former director of the Customs Administration, who was convicted of abuse of his official position in the Customs in the period from 1999 to 2002 in the amount of over two million euros. After the verdict in 2007, Daravelski was also charged with a series of criminal charges for abuse of official duties and powers on various grounds, the most serious of which is the non-payment of customs revenues to the State Budget.
The second defendant Kiro Docevski, the deputy director of the Customs Administration, was accused of the same crime, but also of falsifying an official document. According to the indictment, the state was damaged for 2,5 million euros. The court then decided to confiscate property in the amount of MKD 103.
Daravelski was wanted with an Interpol warrant and was arrested in Belgrade in 2016, but his extradition has not yet happened.
The Ministry of Justice points out that the last extradition from Serbia was requested in June 2020 and so far there has been no response to the request. Previously, extraditions were sought in 2004, 2013 and 2016.
