"Unprecedented": Scientists have discovered a mysterious object orbiting our galaxy
Scientists from Australia claim that they have discovered an unknown object in our galaxy that rotates, stating that it is specific and such a thing has never been seen before.
The object, first discovered by a student at Curtin University in Australia, emits a huge amount of energy into the radio part of the electromagnetic spectrum, cyclically, every 18 minutes.
According to the BBC, energy objects that pulsate with energy are relatively often observed in space, but in this case it is an object that pulsates for a whole minute, which is very unusual. The object was discovered by the student Tyrone O'Doerty with the help of a telescope and a new technique he developed himself.
He is a member of the team of radio astronomers led by the astrophysicist Natasha Harley-Walker, within the International Center for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR).
"The pulse of energy appeared and disappeared for hours during our observations," O'Doherty said in a press release in which ICRAR informed the public of the discovery.
He added in the statement that it was completely unexpected, because nothing else they knew behaved that way.
The object that was "lit" for a whole minute is "very strange," said the ICRAR astrophysicist. Gemma Anderson in a press release.
ICRAR states that the object is located about 4.000 light-years from Earth, is extremely bright and has an extremely strong magnetic field.
