The Macedonian film "Household for Beginners" directed and written by Goran Stolevski, which recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, entered the group of films that complete this year's selection for the 36th edition of the European Film Awards, the European Film Awards announced today. film academy (EFA).
Towards the end of August, first 19 feature films were selected, and now 21 more films have been added to the shortlist, so the final selection contains 40 European films from a total of 31 European countries.
From today until November 7, the members of the European Film Academy will have the opportunity to vote for the selected films, after which, based on the votes, the nominations will be announced in the categories: best European film, director, actor, actress, screenwriter and European documentary. movie.
Selected films will also be considered for awards in the categories of Best Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hair, Original Score, Sound and Visual Effects. They will be selected by an eight-member jury composed of representatives of various arts and professions.
The awards ceremony, known as the European Oscars, is scheduled for December 9, 2023 in Berlin.
At the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, "Household for Beginners" won the 17th Queer Lion Award, in competition with 16 films, including Luc Besson's Dog Man and Bradley Cooper's Maestro, and the film produced by List Production - Skopje opened the 44th edition of the International Film Camera Festival, "Brothers Manaki".
""Housekeeping for Beginners" has also been selected as this year's Macedonian candidate for the "Oscar for Best International Feature Film" award, and it will be shown in Skopje cinemas from October 12.
The film is financially supported by the RSM Film Agency, and will be distributed in the United States through the company "Focus Features". The film's international distributor for the rest of the territories is Universal Pictures, while the film's sales agents New Europe Film Sales from Poland will represent the film in Southeast Europe.
