Dr. Mehmedovic: The Indian variant of the coronavirus leads to gangrene, amputations of the feet and hearing loss
From a clinical point of view, according to the initial analyzes we receive from India and Great Britain, the delta variant, ie the Indian strain of coronavirus, is associated with an increased risk of severe disease and hospitalization, but also a partially different clinical manifestation of the disease. Zlate Mehmedovi од from the Health Center - Skopje in an interview for Free Press which will be published in tomorrow's print edition.
- There are three symptoms that distinguish this variant from the others when it comes to an increased number of cases of gangrene and amputations of the toes and feet as a result of increased blood clotting, something that was not common for the alpha variant. Microthrombi develop, which cause severe limb complications, healthy tissue death, and gangrene in one in four patients with impaired coagulation parameters. Such microthrombi are also found in the digestive system, in the intestines. As a second symptom that is significantly more pronounced in the delta variant are the problems of the digestive system. Significantly more common are vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and decreased appetite. The third most common symptom is hearing loss in some patients, swelling around the neck, and inflammation of the tonsils. The change in the clinical picture of the delta variant indicates increased aggressiveness of the virus, which is an additional reason to sort out its spread on the global map - says Dr. Mehmedovic.
