If Europe does not join the geopolitical game, it will be on the menu
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell today called for strengthening the unity and security of Europe, warning that those who are not at the political game table will be on the menu.
- The fact that the USA has elected a president who will have concrete ideas about the most important scenarios in the world, in Ukraine, in the Middle East and in the relationship with China, requires the Europeans to clearly understand their mission. And their mission, the most important mission, is to build Europe as a force, as a sovereign entity, able to act, not leaving our security to someone else, because no one else will take care of our security, Borrell pointed out.
He added, on the second day of the informal meeting of EU heads of state or government in Budapest, that the Union must take care of its independence, economic security and relations with China.
- One and important word is needed for everything: unity to build a strong Europe, Borel pointed out.
He announced that in the following days he will visit Ukraine, where he will discuss how to continue EU support for Kyiv.
According to Borel, the EU wants to remain a strong partner of the USA, but because it has to build its own capacities.
- Whatever happened in the USA, we have our own interests, we have our own values... We have to ensure our own security, certainly counting on NATO, but building more capacities. It is clear that Europeans must build their own security, Borrell pointed out.
