Awards were given at the 19th IFAD "Stobi" in Veles

The jury-commission of the XIX IFAD "Stobi", consisting of Gjorgi Jolevski (chairman), Biljana Dragicevic-Projkovska and Dean Damjanovski (members), unanimously made the decisions for the awards of this year's edition, which was held from September 17 to October 1 in the Theater "Jordan H.K. The Giant" in Veles.

The award for the best female role was awarded to Jelena Djukic for the role of Clytemnestra in the play "Iphigenia", according to Euripides, directed by Zoran Rakočević, production "Koryfej Theater", CK Kolasin and CK Bjelo Polje, R. Montenegro.

- Jelena Djukic builds the character of Clytemnestra with incredible skill sovereignly controlling her emotional, vocal, physical and mental acting skills. He skilfully follows the director's concept in order to build his own actor's autonomy in it, establishing complete control over the action. It creates a seemingly cold and rational queen who submits to Agamemnon's authority, but her emotional inner charge of a mother who must sacrifice her own daughter shines through the pain of the scene creating an emotional connection with the viewer. Even though she is a young actress, Djukic is timeless on stage and captivates with her charm, beauty, spirituality and indisputable acting performance - the jury explained.

The award for the best male role was awarded to Gjorge Tatić for the role of Agamemnon, in the play "Iphigenia", according to Euripides, directed by Zoran Rakočević, production "Koryfej Theater", CK Kolasin and CK Bjelo Polje, R. Montenegro

- Gjorge Tatić revived the character of Agamemnon with a strong sense of a modern approach to building a role in new aesthetic theater forms. He used his acting experience in placing the dictionally perfect speaking of the verse and with his strong individuality connects the other actors/characters in the amalgam called "Iphigenia". Tatic transforms the cruel Agamemnon from a proud lord into a tyrant, so that at the end of the act he enters a roaring silence. The sophisticated approach to building the role emphasizes the greatness of the actor's personality of Tatić, who brought us a new, strong, modern, powerful and authoritative Agamemnon - noted the jury.

The award for the best director was awarded to Diana Dobreva for the direction of the play "Odyssey" by Aleksandar Sekulov, according to Homer, a production of the Drama Theater "N.O. Masalitinov", Plovdiv, R. Bulgaria.

- The direction in the play "Odyssey" skilfully and elegantly intertwines the textual and visual, the bodily and the sound, the individual and the collective, the epic and the lyrical, thereby overcoming the limits of what is defined in theory as "dramatic theater" and creating a geometric a precise theatrical act, which corresponds to the traditions of the European theater of the 20th century and modernizes them in a way that communicates smoothly and directly with the modern viewer of the 21st century - emphasizes the jury-committee.

The Grand Prix of the festival (Best overall play) was awarded to the play "Odyssey" by Aleksandar Sekulov, based on Homer, directed by Diana Dobreva, a production of the Drama Theater "N.O. Masalitinov", Plovdiv, R. Bulgaria.

- The play "Odyssey" demonstrates an enviable unity between the poetics of the dramatic text, the ambitious concept of the director, the collective potential of the theater, as well as its technical and production qualities, while creating a complete theatrical experience of the ancient myth, which reaches the viewer on multiple levels - the jury pointed out.

The international festival of ancient drama "Stobi" in its 19th edition was held under the motto "In new images". In honor of the laureates, on October 1, the National Opera and Ballet performed the contemporary ballet show "The Ladies of Avignon". The music is by Kaliopi, the choreography is by Olga Pango, and the libretto is by Sašo Dimoski.
