Zoran Anchevski is the winner of the "Brothers Miladinovci" award at SVP 2022 for the collection "Confused Compasses"

The famous Macedonian poet and literary translator Zoran Anchevski is the winner of the "Brothers Miladinovci" award, which is awarded by the "Struzke evenings of poetry" for the best poetry collection between two festival editions.

Anchevski is the winner of the award for his poetry collection "Confused Compasses" published by "Ili-Ili". He is the winner of this highest recognition for the second time, after he received the "Miladinovci Brothers" award in 2018 for the collection of poems "Heavenly Pantomime", reports from SVP.

The jury-commission consisting of Natasha Avramovska (president), Ivan Dodovski (member), Marija Gjordjieva - Dimova (member), Gabriela Stojanoska - Stanoeska (member) and Ivan Antonovski (secretary) made a joint selection after reading all 39 received books and in the collections entered a narrower circle of five books (the order is according to the initial letters of the authors' surnames): "Every Mirror to Everyone" ("PNV Publications") by Andrej Al-Assadi; "Confused Compasses" ("Either-Or") by Zoran Anchevski; "Politics of fear" ("Vostok@2021") by Slavica Gadžova - Sviderska; "Chinook" ("Dialogue") by Risto Lazarov; and "Dripping Time" ("Publisher") by Violeta Tancheva-Zlateva.

Of these five poetry collections, "Confused Compasses" by Zoran Ancevski and "Politics of Fear" by Slavica Gadžova - Sviderska entered the narrowest circle. With a majority of votes (three votes for "Confused Compasses" versus two votes for "Politics of Fear"), the jury committee made a decision to award the "Miladino Brothers" prize at the "Strushke večeri na poezija" for the best poetry book between two editions of the festival. awarded to the book "Confused Compasses" by the poet Zoran Anchevski.

- The poetry book "Confused Compasses" by Zoran Anchevski (Skopje, "Ili-Ili", 2021), is a mature and intimate, in a certain sense, a confessional poetic, i.e. autopoetic announcement of Zoran Anchevski. The book is consistently built as an essentially lyrical, poetic expression in the balance of the sensual experience of the moment and at the same time the moment of meditative concentration in listening to the soul's impulses. Anchevski's lyrical expression in this poetic book is heard from the center of the deep anchoring in the appearance of the world that surrounds us, in the midst of its change, which is also the center of gravity of the mast of the axiological vertical along which the spirit wanders up and down, before the steepness - it is in the explanation of the decision.

Zoran Anchevski (1954) is a poet, university professor, translator, essayist. He has published nine poetry collections that have been well received by critics, highly rated and awarded with various awards in the country and abroad, such as the Student Word Award for the best debut book "Journey through Broken Images" (1984), the International Award " Giacomo Leopardi" in Italy (2004), the highest national prize for poetry "Brothers Miladinovci" of SVP for the book "Heavenly Pantomime" (2018) and others.

He has also published a number of essays, critical reviews, and a study in the field of literary theory "On Tradition" (2007). His latest poetry book "Confused Compasses" is published in the "Poeza" edition of the renowned "Ili-Ili" publishing house. He edited and translated into English several anthological selections of Macedonian poetry and short prose, and there is almost no significant Macedonian or Anglo-American poet who has not been translated into Macedonian or English. For his translation work, he received the highest national award for translation "Grigor Prlichev" (2001). He participated in many poetry festivals in the country and in the world.

He is a member of the Society of Writers of Macedonia, he was twice the secretary of the Macedonian PEN Center and its current president, and he also headed the Board of Directors of SVP (2002-2007). He lives and works in Skopje.

The remaining four shortlisted candidates will also, as usual, be part of the festival programme. This year, "Poetry Evenings in Struja" will be held from August 25 to 29 in its regular edition at recognizable locations.
