Until when do we cut the branch on which we have to sit?

History is not kept only in the lessons in the textbooks, by beating on the chest who is a greater patriot and Macedonian and who has his roots from where. History is preserved by our attitude towards everything that is material evidence of our existence years, decades and centuries ago.

The tree that suffered from the strong wind, one of the three that Mother Teresa planted with her own hands, and the authorities quickly cut it into splinters, shows how little we care for what represents a kind of heritage - historical, cultural - of our country.

The three pines, which were actually silver spruces, as it was expertly explained by "Parks and Greenery", were planted by the saint 42 years ago in the place where a memorial plaque is placed today, and where her house once stood in the square. Macedonia.

After the spruce fell down due to the storm, the appeals of the Gonja Bojajiu - Mother Teresa Heritage Committee did not help, which appealed to the tree, due to its significance, to return to its old place, i.e. to replant it. Instead, the teams of PE "Parkovi i Zevilo" came, cut it, loaded it on a truck and took it away.

Then their director Angele Sotirovski, after those from the Department accused that a barbaric act was committed against an object belonging to Mother Teresa's heritage and demanded responsibility, hurried to explain that it was "moral" to cut the tree - its roots and canopy were damaged. But a new silver spruce would be planted in honor of Mother Teresa's life and work when the planting season came. The same? Sotirovski wants to say probably, tree like tree, snot like snot, one will be replaced by another and that's it. Well, it's not exactly like that!

Over the years, no one took care to somehow protect these three trees, to fence them, to prohibit cutting them into logs, even if the wind brought them down. As we treat everything that is material evidence of our history very "loosely", regardless of whether it is more distant or closer and regardless of who is in power and who is in opposition.

So, the aqueduct, which is a real treasure, is left to be destroyed by time, while strategies, projects, and blueprints have been made for years to protect it. The world makes a real tourist attraction out of something like this, it collects money from looking at such a landmark, and here we don't know how to find the way to it. The space in front of the building, messy, dusty and turned into a dump, was used by bikers for motocross. And then the concerned people called with condemnation, and the bikers replied that this way at least someone will find out where the aqueduct is. And they are right.

We also changed the appearance of the Stone Bridge, in the square, we removed the cobblestones that no one knows where they ended up, and we paved them with some modern tiles. In our country, architecture has no value, no history, no periods, nothing is preserved. What a comparison, the streets of the entire wider central area of Rome are cobbled! But what do the Romans know what is modern!

Let's not go back to the period of antiquing and the project "Skopje 2014" with which they covered in styrofoam objects that also testified to a certain period of our past. The Government building, for example, which is now popularly called "champita", the facades on Makedonija street as well (although they only "repainted" the wall facing the main street, and from where it is not visible, everything is left to the teeth of time).

History is not kept only in the lessons in the textbooks, by beating on the chest who is a greater patriot and Macedonian and who has his roots from where (and with curses and arguments on social networks with a mouth full of big words). History is also preserved by our attitude towards everything that is material evidence of our existence years, decades and centuries ago. It needs a lot more care.

And therefore, not every tree is a tree and not every spruce is a spruce…
