William Burns, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), visited Ukraine recently and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the New York Times reported today.

Officials told the newspaper that the CIA's top man was in Kyiv this month to discuss continuing US intelligence operations with Ukraine to re-invigorate Washington's support for the war against Russia.

The United States and Ukraine have been at odds over covert operations by Ukrainian saboteurs, such as the partial collapse of a bridge over the Kerch Bay and attacks by the Ukrainian military in Crimea, but relations remain strong and cooperation continues, officials said.

As MIA's Washington correspondent reported, US intelligence is critical in helping the Ukrainians successfully target Russian targets such as military depots located behind front lines, or command and control points, and to locate weaknesses in Russian defenses, which is useful in the successful counteroffensives of Kyiv.

Officials did not say how many times Burns had visited Kyiv since the invasion began. Right before her, he came to Kyiv to warn Zelensky to strengthen the defense of the capital
