Director of the Bulgarian Anti-Corruption Agency Sotir Tsatsarov resigns as Bulgaria's new centrist government demands legal changes to launch fight against rampant corruption, Bulgarian parliament spokesman says today BGNES.

Bulgaria is ranked as the most corrupt member state of the European Union according to Transparency International.

Prime Minister-led coalition government Kiril Petkov, who took office last month promising zero tolerance for corruption, plans to revise the agency as a first step towards ending the climate of impunity in the Balkan country.

Analysts say high-level corruption is a serious obstacle to Bulgaria's ambitions to attract more foreign investment and join Schengen and the eurozone. Tsacarov, the former chief prosecutor took over Anticorruption in 2019.
