The director of the Bulgarian police confirmed: 12 children were killed, including two twins
According to initial information, 52 passengers and the driver were traveling in the bus with Macedonian registration, the director of the National Police of Bulgaria Stanimir Stanev told BTV.
As MIA reports from Sofia, Staev added that the Macedonian bus entered Bulgaria last night at 21 pm from the "Kapitan Andreevo" border crossing. He traveled through the highway "Thrace", and then through the highway "Struma" to the border with Northern Macedonia in the direction of the border crossing Gjueshevo, from where he had to leave Bulgaria. According to Staev, the causes of the fire in the bus are still being determined.
He confirmed that 45 Macedonian citizens were killed and 7 survived. It is tragic, Staev added, that among the dead are children, even two twins. Two women and two men survived and were taken to Pirogov Hospital in Sofia.
So far nothing can be said about the reasons, there was no other participant in the accident, and the protective fences kept the bus from falling off the section. The case is being investigated by the National Investigation Service due to the large number of victims. The identity of all passengers who passed the border control upon entering Bulgaria has been established.
