Dimitrov: Western Balkans to show that they can work together, EU to prove that it understands the strategic importance of enlargement

To overcome the stalemate in the enlargement process, the region should send a clear message backed by concrete actions, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov at a regional conference on the European future of the Western Balkans: The future of Europe is our common agenda.

Dimitrov, who is participating in the conference at the invitation of the Government of Montenegro, stressed that the more we speak in one voice, the louder our message will resonate and the farther it will be heard.

- In the EU capitals, the news from one country in the region affects the perceptions of the entire Western Balkans, we need to show that we can work together and overcome open issues. The EU, for its part, needs to prove that it understands the strategic importance of enlargement to countries in the region. If strengthening the Union's resilience is one of the points affecting Europe's future, then the region is the vital point for achieving this goal. The success of the European file of Northern Macedonia is crucial if we want the European political ticket to be won, said Dimitrov.

According to the Secretariat for European Affairs, the event, organized in cooperation with the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ), was addressed by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Zdravko Krivokapic, and the President of the EU Council, Gasper Dovzan, while in The discussion was also attended by Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gervala, Montenegro's chief negotiator Zorka Kordic, Albania's chief negotiator Zef Mazi and other senior officials from the region.
