Dimitrov: The French proposal rewards Bulgaria for the veto
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov in interview for the regional television "H1" says that the French proposal for resolving the dispute between Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria is a dangerous precedent, which opens the possibility for Sofia to block and blackmail Skopje during the entire negotiation process.
According to Dimitrov, Paris has allowed bilateral issues with Bulgaria to enter into a negotiating framework, and the dispute with Sofia concerns the Macedonian language, identity and history.
- I think that only distances us from what the process should be - democratic and economic reforms, Copenhagen criteria. What we have is a dead end - said Dimitrov.
According to him, the European Union should be persuaded to change the process that does not work, because such an enlargement process does not bring results, ie does not reward countries that go forward, does not punish countries that go backwards and allows one EU member to "Lives" above a candidate country.
He said it was necessary to "reset" the policy towards Sofia and that the EU should punish instead of, as he pointed out, rewarding Bulgaria for the veto.
Dimitrov described the process of joining the regional countries, saying that everyone in the Balkans is sitting in one bus, and everyone is trying to sit as close as possible to the driver.
"But the problem is that the bus is not moving," he said.
